RST 367 - Self, Society & Nature in Chinese and Japanese Religions Description A thematic exploration of self, society, nature, and their inter-relationships as conceived in Chinese and Japanese religions, especially Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. Addresses these issues through translations of classical Chinese and Japanese texts, then examines how they play out in a number of historical periods, including the modern. We will end with some examples of recent East Asian concepts and practices embody certain themes in ancient traditions while adapting to the unique challenges of modernity. Credits: 1
