PBH 314 - Reproductive Health and Justice in Latin American History
Description
This course examines the history of reproductive health and the emergence of reproductive rights and justice movements in Latin America from the colonial period to the present. It explores how the practices of reproductive health, the intersections between sexuality and reproduction, and the professions of midwifery and obstetrics changed over time. The central themes of the course include birth control, maternal and infant mortality, sexually-transmitted diseases, family planning, and reproductive health policy, but with particular attention to Latin American gender systems and the region’s cultural and ethnic diversity. Same as HIS/WGS 314 /STS372.
