HIS 138 - The United States and the Modern World Description This course traces the rise of the United States since the Civil War, as an urban, industrial society marked by deep racial and ethnic cleavages. Besides studying movements and legal struggles for equality, it examines America’s role as a world power, from intervention n Latin America through two world wars, the Cold War, and Vietnam.
