ECO 231 - Money and Banking Description The course is an introduction to the basic principles of money, banking, interest rates, balance sheets, financial instruments, financial institutions, and monetary policy. It examines alternative perspectives on a variety of issues such as the nature and origins of money, the role of banks and nonbank financial institutions in the creation of money, and the relationship between banks, nonbank financial firms and the central bank. The course will also help you gain a better understanding of the evolution of the financial system including financial practices, instruments, institutions, and how these impact and are impacted by regulation. Prerequisite ECO 100 AND ECO 103
