CNX 141 - Democracy and Disagreement Description Disagreement is inevitable in democracy. Though we can’t avoid disagreeing with one another, we can learn to disagree better (that is, in productive - and civil - ways). This course will explore the causes and consequences of disagreement in society as well as strategies for engaging in public debate. While discussing many of the day’s most controversial issues, students will develop skills that are essential to citizenship including critical reading, effective writing, active listening, and persuasive speaking.
