CNX 155 - Collage

Description
How do artists create new art forms to make sense of the world and themselves? How do ideas become form, and how do forms and materials communicate meaning? How do social and political histories factor into the work of individual artists? In this course, we make and study collage. We also research, write and present on specific collage artists. We supplement these projects with readings in art history, criticism, and philosophy. Studio work will emphasize visual problem-solving and invention, and the development of thematic materials through multiple revisions, using both paper and digital media. Students will work with Adobe Photoshop; no prior experience is required.
