CNX 152 - Science Revolutions

Description
What is the nature of science, and is there such a thing as a “scientific revolution”? What would it consist of? How would it come about? Is an overarching theory possible that could explain revolutions in any or all of the sciences? By the end of the course, you should be able to look at any area of science and intelligently assess whether it makes sense to speak of “revolutions” having occurred. Most of all, you will come away with critical thinking and writing tools for understanding how science functions. This knowledge will surely be useful for an educated citizen in a world of claims about “genes for homosexuality,” pharmaceutical (as opposed to psychosocial) treatments of depression, anxiety or ADD, and national debates over whether to spend taxpayer dollars on any scientific project.
