CNX 144 - World Cup Connections: The Global Game in Context Description The world’s most popular sport, soccer is more than just a “beautiful game.” As evident in a burgeoning scholarship, soccer reflects and shapes dynamics of empire, gender and sexuality, globalization, international finance and relations, nationalism, popular culture, race, religion, and the psychology of fandom and violence. This course will rely on case studies from the past and present to frame interdisciplinary analysis designed to hone liberal arts skills of critical thinking, engaged reading, effective writing, research, information literacy, and thoughtful self-expression.
