CNX 129 - The Experience of Landscape & Place

Description
How do we experience place? When does land become landscape? And when does landscape become place? This course will explore these questions through works of Asian and Western art (painting, prints, and photographs) and works of literature, as well as through field trips that will seek to connect you to the experience of landscape and place. The course will help you develop not only skills of analyzing images and texts, but also keener abilities to perceive whatever landscapes you experience. Expect to walk, expect to look, expect to read, expect to write.
