CNX 127 - Landscapes & Art of Noticing Description This course explores the ways that humans perceive and interact with landscapes in myth, art, culture, and science. Exploration and close examination of landscapes (i.e., the art of noticing) by writers, artists, and natural scientists have led to important insights and discoveries that in turn affected cultural views of Earth and humanity. Examples in class readings and discussions include explorations of Antarctica and the Grand Canyon, New England, Pacific Northwest, and Yellowstone regions. Observing landscapes closely and better understanding their origins and history lead to relevant insights for modern restoration of environmentally degraded landscapes, with questions such as “what is a natural landscape, and can landscapes be restored”?
